Burton’s Bride

A folk tale wedding

Seen any good movies lately? That’s a difficult question to answer. This has been a notoriously B-A-D year for the movie industry.

Have faith! Studios release some of their best projects in late fall. By the time Halloween rolls around, you’ll have more choices at the Cineplex or the art house.

Until then, how about a darkly cute movie about marriage?

Director Tim Burton teams with Johnny Depp and Emily Watson to bring a Russian folk tale to life. In Corpse Bride, Burton uses stop-motion animation, as he did with 1993’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The story centers on Victor and Victoria, a young couple who have just met and are about to be married. Victor flees to the forest to practice his vows and mistakenly marries a corpse bride. He desperately tries to make his way back to his real fiancée, Victoria.
