Lightning safety device installed on roof
A new safety device has been installed on the roof of the F Building on the northeast corner above the north entrance of the Natatorium, said Steve Schellenberg, building operations supervisor for NLC.

“This system is designed to predict a lightning strike within a five-mile diameter area of the unit,” said Schellenberg. “When the computer senses a hazardous condition for a lightning strike, it will activate a 15-second blast from the horn cluster. A yellow strobe light will activate and stay on until the danger has passed or at least 10 minutes after the last detection of lightning.” Should you hear the lightning prediction system activate, you should immediately seek shelter, he said.
