NLC students hit the boards with challenging
Inge script Those of you who enjoy attending
plays at North Lake will have to wait just a little
bit longer.
North Lake’s performing arts department
recently held auditions for Picnic by William
Inge. Students gathered in the Performance Hall
to showcase their skills in front of the show’s
directors.
The play is a realistic American drama set in
the 1950s. Director of North Lake Theatre, Alice
Butler, will direct a cast of 12 students. Technical
Director Mike McKee is in charge of set design,
and instructor John Mosley handles lighting design.
Before the auditions, McKee explained the casting
process. “As we go through most of the audition,
we will pick exciting parts in the play and have
the actors read from the script to get a feel
for the play,” he said.
Butler has always wanted to do this play.
“We have never done it before and I know
it will be a challenge for me, as well as for
my colleagues,” Butler said.
“Inge’s plays are daunting and they
show a wide emotional range,” she said.
A preview of Picnic will be performed at 8 p.m.,
Oct. 25. The show will run from Oct. 26 through
Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. in the North Lake College Performance
Hall.
