Sky is the limit for Disney’s Chicken Little

By Casey Cavalier

Clever and colorful, this Walt Disney Pictures’ animated release should be enjoyed by young children as well as the grownups in the theater.

The story begins one year after the “unfortunate acorn incident” when Chicken Little caused havoc in his hometown of Oakey Oaks by proclaiming that the sky was falling. It was determined that the young chick had become delusional after being hit on the head by an acorn.

Chicken Little has since tried to live down that awful experience and gain the respect of the townsfolk and his father, Buck Cluck. As fate would have it, he gets hit on the head again. But this time the sky really appears to be falling. Young Little is hesitant to inform the town of the impending danger and decides to enlist the help of his closest friends, Runt of the Litter, Ugly Duckling and Fish Out of Water, to save Earth from alien attack without creating mass panic.

The animation is detailed and the characters are given exaggerated human attributes to heighten their comical antics. The film is directed by Mark Dindal and the soundtrack includes performances by recording artists such as Barenaked Ladies; John Ondrasik; Patti LaBelle and Joss Stone; and the Cheetah Girls.

Actors and actresses who lend their voices to the animated stars include Zach Braff (Chicken Little), Garry Marshall (Buck Cluck), Joan Cusack (Abby Mallard, aka Ugly Duckling). The film’s message is trust and support of family.
