Lake Takes

The N-R’s opinion on recent campus happenings.

THUMBS DOWNTHUMBS DOWN to construction crew mishaps.
To err is human. Even the News-Register isn’t exempt from errors. Our October issue, for instance, had a thing or two we could have done differently. The important thing is to live and learn. Right?

So when a construction crew on campus hit a water line and caused the college to shut down, we chalked it up to being human.

But when the telephone lines were cut two days later, well, it just got us to thinking, “What’s next?”

THUMBS UPTHUMBS UP to Coach Benedek and the women’s Soccer team.
The team’s eight wins, five losses and two draws is the best record that North Lake has compiled in the history of its regular season play. And also for the first time in school history, the soccer team advanced to the MAC Playoffs.

A season like that has resulted in more interest from local talent who used to look past North Lake and head to Eastfield or Richland to play soccer.

THUMBS DOWNTHUMBS DOWN to classroom doors that open into the hallway.
You’re walking along after class with the flow of foot traffic minding your own business. You take your eyes off your route for one second to check out the hottie that’s in your English class when all of a sudden out of nowhere comes this big, heavy wooden door.

You’re dazed, embarrassed, and in pain. Someone calls the nurse. She tells you that you have a possible concussion.

OK, maybe it hasn’t happened yet. But the N-R has heard of a few misses. We think the person who put those doors on wrong is the same one who set our clocks ahead one hour last month.

THUMBS UPTHUMBS UP to Tuesday/Thursday parking in Senior spaces
Shhhh! The best kept secret at NLC is the recent change for senior parking days.

The reserved parking for seniors is M-W-F now. That leaves Tuesdays and Thursdays open for ANYONE — ALL DAY, not just after 11 a.m. Check it out. Shhhhh!
