Cool weather drove the ceremony indoors, but that didn’t stop the celebratory mood at a ribbon cutting for North Lake College’s Nursing Program Center. In a partnership with El Centro College, nursing education is offered at NLC and coordinated by Diana Redding.

Student Nursing Association president Shari Jensen praised the “culturally diverse and rich” program, noting that NLC nursing students hail from every continent and the environment adds depth to the overall education students receive.

North Lake College President Dr. Herlinda Glasscock said that El Centro College is “the most tremendous partner we could have.” North Lake is a satellite program linked to El Centro’s nursing program.

“I’m not encouraging it, but if a local hospital stay is in your future — if that happens to be your lot. I’m confident that at least one of your nurses will have been through the district’s nursing program,” said Dr. Wright Lassiter Jr., president of El Centro.

Center tours were conducted for dozens of guests by Dr. Paul Kelemen, North Lake’s vice-president of instruction and Dr. Marilyn Mays, executive dean of Math/Sciences Teaching and Learning Center.
