Annual Writers' Fest March 29, 30
Writers’ Fest returns March 29 and 30, giving aspiring writers at North Lake a chance to rub elbows and chat about writing with accomplished authors. Professor Nancy Castilla hopes that the event will inspire and encourage students with varying interests.
“I thought last year’s event was excellent,” Castilla said. “I have read several pieces of work from the authors who are coming in this year, and they are exceptional.” This year’s theme is Writer’s Potpourri, referring to the variety of expertise that will be available in different areas.
The event will kick off Wednesday, March 29, at 11:15 a.m. Dr. Jerry Craven and his wife, Sherry Craven, will be the guest speakers. Dr. Craven is a professor at West Texas State University and a member of the Texas Institute of Letters. He is an editor and a published poet. Mrs. Craven is a retired professor who has published poetry in English and Spanish.
At 7:15 p.m., March 29, Jim Donovan and Richard Abshire will showcase different skills. Donovan is a literary agent based in Dallas. Abshire is part of the creative writing program at North Lake. He also works for The Dallas Morning News. He has written seven novels and will teach young writers some of the most important keys in that area. He is also a former Dallas S.W.A.T. team captain. |
