Whiten your way
into spring

Everyone else is doing it, why not you, too?
This spring’s black is white and it is showing up everywhere.
Valentino’s doing it, Michael Kors is doing it. Even Isaac Mizrahi
and Luella for Target are doing it.
This spring the designers are putting the cleanliest color out on the
racks. They debuted their collections of purity at the Spring 2006 Olympus
Fashion Week in New York – now it is time for what was there to
be here, with us and on us.
Guys, don’t be fooled, this color is not just for the ladies, it’s
also for you. DKNY, Paul Smith and Diesel are just a few of the shows
that featured white as the “in” color for men. Some more
sporty options are Y-3 for adidas and Lacoste, who also feature white
as their IN color. These two labels featured whites for men and women
alike.
For women, white is all over the place. A few who have bleached their
collection are Max Studio’s, Calvin Klein and Lagerfeld. Betsey
Johnson, who is not new to this column, nor new to the runway shows,
also has several all-white ensembles that were featured in her spring
fashion show in NY.
Women have a variety of different styles to choose from. From formal
gowns to cocktail dresses, accessorize them with a little color and you
are on your way to looking fabulous. Pick up the newest trend in white,
the bib-front shirt dress and wear it on a casual weekend date. Pair
it with a white slouch bag lined in brown leather trim and you’ll
not only look great, you will also feel great, looking so put-together.
For a more professional look, pick up a tailored suit. On a budget? Head
over to Target and grab one of Isaac Mizrahi’s tailored suits for
less than a hundred bucks. Go extravagant with a tux-style jacket and
cuffed shorts (the hottest short look this season). Pair either with
the perfect shoes and your boss will be begging to give you a raise.
Guys, don’t be scared but white jeans and casual pants are back
from the 80s. Match them with a white button-up and a khaki jacket and
you are set. White shorts with the right sporty hat and, I hate to admit
it, but even flip-flops will go.
White is light and white is now so wear them fast. Because come summer
and it will be time for the bright and the bold. |
