National champs welcomed home with cheers, jazz band, food
On Monday, March 27, at 2 p.m., North Lake College came together to officially congratulate the men’s basketball team for winning the 2006 National Junior College Athletic Associations (NJCAA) Division III title at the championship game in Delhi, N.Y.
The NLC jazz band played a snappy tune as people gathered in the cafeteria to celebrate the team’s win. Coach Tim McGraw introduced each of the players and spoke highly of the team’s ability on and off the court and, of course, winning the game in New York.
“The team worked together well,” he said. “It’s one of the best group of men I’ve ever coached.”
NLC Blazer Bells and cheerleaders performed a couple of routines for the crowd. “They were a hoot,” said one of students. They did a Rockettes version of a chorus line to the theme of “New York, New York.”
Joining the line up was Dr. Linda Glasscock, president of NLC, Mary Ciminelli, Guy Melton and a host of others kicking their legs up to the music.
Glasscock addressed the audience. “I am very proud of our number one winning men’s basketball team and all of our coaches,” she said.
Athletic Director Dan Joutras ended, “I am very proud of our team efforts and their maturity. We have all worked very hard.” |
