Food, dances, songs, basketball game were on day’s agenda

On April 7, International Day started off with an international basketball game where anyone and everyone who was there was invited to jump on the court and show what they had.

The members of the NLC basketball team were there, along with many teachers and students who were planning on watching and were thrown into the game.

After the game the events continued outside where tables were set up to show off all of the nationalities that this school includes. Everyone from Japanese to Indian to Hispanic and even Americans were out, displaying the best aspects of their culture.

There were music stations and the Army giving out tickets to Mavericks games as well as clubs giving out pieces of their own culture, varying from drinks to scents and even dances and songs.

The events really kicked off when the stage opened to allow students to perform cultural songs and dances. Andrea Allen, a student at Southern Methodist University, started things off with a Hindi dance and song.“Americans know more Hindi than we (Indians) do,” the announcer said, congratulating Allen.

“I think it went well,” said Deborah Jensen, president of Phi Theta Kappa, “They had a lot of programs and a lot of interaction.”
