DOWN to cell phones in the Testing Center.
It’ s bad enough to hear phones ringing in the classroom during a lecture, but in the Testing Center?!
Come on, ya’ll, turn those things off! Better yet...put them in the lockers that the school has so kindly provided OUTSIDE the testing room!.Common courtesy, anyone? Anyone? (You can do it!)

UP to video producers’ big win at TIPA.
Congratulations are in order for Grace Lee and Jennifer Garcia for bringing home a first place award for “Television Documentary” from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA). The two produced a documentary about the Holocaust.
Other first place winners are Lauren Youngblood, Barry Adams and Nikki Bingham for “Television Production.”
Jim Shannon, Katie Rooney, Nick Gititu, Jim Wingard and Robert Manning also won awards for their video work.
Good job guys!!

DOWN to potty-mouth posts on Web sites that grade professors.
Students sometimes refer to Web sites for information about a school’s professors.
There are several sites that list professors’ “grades” or “ratings.” MySpace.com and RateMyProfessor.com are among the most popular.
But, can the N-R make a suggestion? Instead of bad mouthing your prof, choose your words wisely, or simply grade and go. Some of the word choices are just plain nasty. Wise up. Be mature.

UP to the TRiO program.
North Lake has many student services, but the one that’s shining bright this week is TRiO. It offers help with admissions, transferring information, and tutoring services.
Each year TRiO honors students at the annual Recognitions Banquet held at the end of the spring semester.
Kudos to staff members M.J. Prochia, Anne Brown, Billy Yost, Stephen Spotswood and others.
