Betting on Bold

Prints, patterns & colors are a hit

With the spring semester coming to a close, many of us full-time students are left wondering what we are going to do with our spare time. Instead of letting the summer heat get the best of you, get the best of it by braving it in the bold zone! Go out and be fabulous while making a statement in this season’s hottest trend— bold colors and powerful prints.

Prints, patterns and colors alike were a hit in the New York and Paris Spring 2006 ready-to-wear fashion shows. Popular designers such as Calvin Klein, Diane Von Furstenberg and L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stafani showed off their bold and bodacious prints last September in NYC. And yes, Betsey Johnson, who is known for her saucy ensembles, made a statement using the boldest and brightest colors.

Calvin Klein’s green- and white-printed floral trapeze dress is showing up in several of the most popular fashion magazines now on stands. Diane has always been known for her vibrant and colorful prints. This season she featured several black and white dresses but kept it bold with her choice of print combinations. The L.A.M.B. show was a barrage of color combinations along with prints and patterns. Gwen has never proven to be the quiet type and she backs this up with her fashion-forward collection.

For more student savvy apparel, I suggest both ladies and gents on a tight budget to hit up Diesel and Target for your summer wardrobe. Diesel’s men’s and women’s collections offer a variety of bold solids and busy patterns to be mixed and matched for a montage of outfits. Mossimo at Target offers lines of apparel for men and women. The hottest must-have right now is— you guessed it—swim apparel. You won’t find many dull choices here…prints and colors are standing out and being checked out by pool-ready peeps.

So as the finals week steadily approaches, think about being fabulous at any price point. Brighten up your summer vacation and keep in mind — anything bold will go!
