$1,800 in awards given to entrants
A reception launching the 2006 Student Art Exhibition was held on April 19 in the Gallery at North Lake College. Kenneth Craighead of the Craighead-Green Gallery in Dallas was the exhibition’s juror.
NLC’s art club, WEOTA, sponsored the reception at which students were awarded cash prizes. The department’s 16 professors were also honored with certificates of appreciation.
An estimated 50 guests viewed works on display and cast their votes for the People’s Choice award. Student artists Marjorie Widener and Elza Guedes were chosen by reception guests and awarded the People’s Choice distinction.
Widener and student Julia Laguarda each scored a Best of Show award and $150. Widener won with her work, “Despondent, Depressed & Desperate” in clay, and Laguarda for her mixed media piece, “2481.”
Special Achievement recognition and $50 was awarded to 12 students, including Richard Widener, Kapil Dixit, Daks Patel, LeAnn Boyce, Roel Cruz, Monica Winters, Mark Dungan, Bridget Tally, Felicia Hansel, Hans Welboren, Chris Lachina and Marina Mozheyeva.
The show runs until May 10. Stephen Benezue, of Visual & Performing Arts, is the Gallery’s director. |
