Letter from
the Editor
Over the past two years,
I've become more
aware of the large effect
that journalism has
on all of us. The world around us
is changing, and it is important that
the news changes with it.
I'm very excited about the opportunity
to serve as your editor for the News-Register. This paper has become
one that stands out in a crowd,
thanks in no small part to Amanda
Witt, Tom Ritchey, Josh Bohling
and the other editors who came before
me. They shoudl
be proud of what they
have created.
Every editor has
both the unique opportunity
and the considerable
responsibility
of creating a voice for
their publication, and
with each new editor
comes new innovation. I hope to
help this paper continue to innovate
just as the editors before me have.
With that in mind, the Journalism
Club is launching an online compliment
to the News-Register. Go to
http://theblazeronline.com, and
you'll get a couple of things: You'll
get more information about the stories
in this month's paper, and you'll
get a bit of a behind-the- scenes look
at what goes into writing a story.
All of us who work on the paper
take it seriously, and we put a lot
of effort into writing about things
that are important for you to know.
But this is your paper, too. As a student
newspaper, the News-Register should serve as both an open public
forum for the students and as a
source of information to them. If
you have an opinion about something
we've written or if you think
we should be covering something
that we aren't, let us know. There
are some stories that just don't get
told because no one takes the time
to tell them. Come by the newsroom
at A-260 or feel free to email
me personally at dylanbiles@ gmail.com.
Over the next few
months, you'll see the
addition of some student-
driven pages, such
as Open Forum, which
we hope will be an interesting
look into subjects
that are important,
written by the students who they are
important to. On a campus as diverse
as North Lake, it stands to
reason that someone out there has
a point of view that others may not
have even considered. I, for one, am
looking forward to hearing what
you all have to say. So write us, call
us or come visit and talk to us personally.
In the mean time, we'll continue
to do the best job we can at getting
you news that is pertinent and that
informative about the student experience
here at North Lake. |
