Phi Theta Kappa
wins big
Chapter honored at PTK conventions
During the last year,
Phi Theta Kappa
worked hard to keep
our chapter
in the top 25. At the
end of the year, like Britney
Spears would say,
“Oops We Did It Again.”
When went to Austin to
find out just how well
we performed, we were
proud to be Alpha Zeta
Eta, North Lake's Chapter
of Phi theta Kappa.
We went to Austin for our Regional
Convention and received
several awards. The first award
was and Honorable Mention for our
yearbook. Dr Yolanda Romero, our
advisor, was given the Coordinators
Award, Debra Jenson was entered
into the Hall of Honor and we were
named a Texas Top Chapter, putting
us in the top 15 out of 85 chapters.
The international competition
was held in Seattle, where we competed
against 1284 chapters. While
the team was there, the Phi Theta
Kappa International Headquarters
released the new initiatives for the
next two years. Our honor study
topic is, “Gold, Gods, and Glory -
The Global Dynamics of Power.”
For the next two years we will explore
the effect of power.
We also learned of our new service
project, “Operation Green:
Improving Our Community.”
This project allows us to form a
relationship with Keep America
Beautiful, concentrating on cleaning
up our community and educating
them on how to have a better
city through beautification.
While in Seattle, we really wanted
to know how we measured up to
all of the other chapters
that had been working
hard all year. Our first
win was in the category
of “Service.” We won
one of only 30 awards
given to a chapter of
service. Throughout
the night we would
stand up over and over
to yell for Texas, our
own Team Alpha Zeta Eta and our
Officers. Debra Jenson won Distinguished
Chapter President, William
Videtto won the Advisors Paragon
Award, Aaron Van Audenhove
won Distinguished Chapter Officer
Award, Lisa Boone- Arellano won
Distinguished Regional Officer
award and Alpha Zeta Eta won the
Distinguished Chapter Award, putting
our chapter in the top 25 internationally.
Alpha Zeta Eta, as you can see,
is a powerful chapter. We would
love for you to join. To qualify all
you need is a 3.5 GPA and 12 credit
hours. We have orientation dates in
the fall. If you would like to be inducted
into the International Honor
Society, we will put signs up all
around campus to tell you when and
where meetings will occur. If you
would like more information we
meet 4:30 every Friday in A206.
You don't have to be a member
to help in our activities. Phi Theta
Kappa has many transfer scholarships
so if you are thinking of
transferring to a four year college
this is the place to be.
