Lake Takes

The N-R’s opinion on recent campus happenings.

thumbdownTHUMBS DOWN to uncomfortable places to hang.
If you’ve got time to kill on campus before your next class, good luck finding a place where it’s comfortable to sit. Most of the furniture looks like it should be in a doctor’s waiting room instead of a college campus.

Only the cloth mini-couches scattered here and there off er any kind of semi-comfortable resting place.

So what’s a student to do? Sit in his car between classes? Didn’t we once hear a rumor about a Student Life Center?

thumbupTHUMBS UP to the online databases in the library.
Th e North Lake Library has a one-stop source of news and periodicals with specialized and general interest information. It’s called InfoTrac, and it’s free.

You can go online and read tons of different publications if you want to, and even access most newspapers’ archives.

This collection of databases is an untapped resource that is there for the taking. Not too many things are free in this world, and this particular freebie just happens to be a most valuable resource.

thumbdownTHUMBS DOWN to the A elevator going out of service.
For North Lake students with physical disabilities, long distance walks to class are tasks which are sometimes difficult to conquer. So, when the elevator broke in the Abuilding, one has to wonder what sort of affect it had on students. Having to walk to the C building to use the elevator to get to the third and fourth floors of the A Building? Well, it kind of defeats the purpose.

thumbupTHUMBS UP to Listening Boxes on campus.
Students and faculty have been taking advantage of the Listening Boxes around campus to share their feelings with the powers that be. Th e N-R especially likes the way the suggestions and answers are displayed on the Internet.

Just click on North Lake’s home page and click on “About NLC.” Th en under the “Area Links” heading, you’ll find “From the Listening Box.”

It’s really interesting reading.
