Students from North Lake College
have created a cheerleading
squad.
Tryouts were Sept. 30. The eighteen
girls who auditioned were
judged on stunting, jumps, tumbling
and on their ability to learn
cheers quickly.
With SPAR's permission, the
team was created only a week before
the tryouts were scheduled.
Those involved in creating the team
sat at a table in the eating area recruiting
girls to test their skills at
auditions. They will perform at
basketball games and will support
the baseball team from the stands.
The team is coached by a student,
Lydia Pritchett. She was a varsity
cheerleader at McKinney High
School, as well as a cheerleader for
Prospirit's coed team. She was also
an National Cheerleading Association
(NCA) All American Cheerleader.
“I've cheered my whole life,”
said Pritchett. “I think cheerleading
is a very inspirational sport. It isn't
just girls jumping around yelling
'go, team, go.' There is actually a
lot of skill involved, and it's a great
workout.”
Angela Macdowell, another student,
will help Pritchett with organization
and planning.
The team will also work out with
a tumbling coach at a local gym. |
