The Lady Blazers have been
hard at work this season, and are
gearing up for a run at the conference
title.
As of Friday, Oct. 20, The Lady's
Soccer team is 5-1 in conference
play with their only loss coming to
rival DCCCD school Richland.
“The season is going pretty well
and we are in second place,” said
coach Adrian Gonzalez.
The Lady Blazers beat conference
rival Cedar Valley, but lost to
Richland 1-0, and currently sit in
second place in the division. Team
captain Monica Bacon commented
on the loss.
“The loss to Richland was good
because they are more experienced
and it helped our team.”
Despite freshmen standouts Jenna
Gordon, Falen Gutierrez and
Lindsey Harris, Coach Gonzalez
doesn't feel the team is quite where
it should be.
“I would like to see more ball
control from the girls,” he said.
“The team is better then last
year, and the freshmen bring more
individual talent to the team and
more speed,” said Bacon.
Freshmen Lindsey Harris, a
mid-fielder from MacArthur, believes
the team is doing well despite
the lack of subs. When asked about
how she thinks the team will do in
the playoffs, she replied, “We will
win.”
Helping the team win will be
goalie Enber Perez, who won the
starting job over Jenna Gordon and
Katie Hall.
“Having one goalie gives the
team more confidence because we
know what to expect in the net from
game to game,” said Harris. “Our
captains are a big help as well. They
keep us confident in the game and
push us in practice.”
With two games left before the
playoffs the Lady Blazer Soccer
team is optimistic and ready to win
a title.
