The Blazer Abroad
The Visual & Performing Arts department
at North Lake College sponsors
a study abroad program every fall.
Students live and study in Orvieto,
Italy, a medieval hilltop between Florence and
Rome.
This year another group of “Romers” (aka
North Lake students) packed their bags, put on
their walking shoes, traded their dollars for Euros
and roamed the cities, towns and villages
of Italy.
Many worked hard to prepare for a chance
to travel, expand their world and open their
eyes to new and exciting possibilities.
After arriving in September, students began
classes, which were interspersed with day trips
and longer excursions to some of Italy's bigger
cities such as Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples,
Pompeii and Capri.
Many took part in a student-produced online
travelogue. The Blazer Abroad debuted this
year, giving “Romers” a chance to post photos
and travelogue entries about their experiences.
As students return from their travels in November,
video clips and photos are being gathered
for a DVD that could be made available
to students and their families at the end of the
semester.
