Lake Takes
The N-R’s
opinion on
recent campus
happenings.
THUMBS
DOWN to Old Glory left
out in the dark.
We’ve been told that the flag
that flies proudly over Liberty
Circle often remains on its
pole all night.
While in the Cub Scouts,
some N-R staffers learned all
about the American flag. We
were taught how to fold a flag
properly and not to fly it after
dark unless it is lighted.
We’d like to suggest that
NLC’s American flag be properly
lighted or that some kind
person remove it in the evening
and raise it in the morning.

THUMBS UP to improved
Internet speed.
We feel compelled to follow
up on a previous beef we had
with agonizingly slow Internet
connections on the central
campus.
We offer three cheers for
the pencil pushers, brainiacs,
or whomever is responsible
for solving a potentially crippling
operations problem.
Internet speed seems to have
improved.
Bejeweled players, downloaders
and, oh yeah, instructors
are reportedly enjoying
faster connections.
THUMBS
DOWN to
poorly vetted
‘craft sale’ vendors.
Intellectual property and
copyright law are in place for
a reason.
Imagine our surprise when
we noticed several visits to
North Lake this semester from
vendors selling what looked to
be counterfeit designer handbags
and “rip-off “ perfumes.
Counterfeit goods cause losses
of $250 billion annually to
U.S. companies. An Alabama
man was just sentenced to
three years in prison selling
counterfeit handbags.
College organizers probably
didn’t know that the vendors
they are inviting to set up shop
on our campus are (allegedly)
engaged in what appears to be
criminal activity.
But, now they do. And,
that’s a good start.
THUMBS UP
to student photographers.
The high caliber of student
photography on display (as of
press date) in the North Lake
Gallery is impressive.
This exhibition is the best
we’ve seen. Kudos classmates!
You’ve got talent.
