The Lady Blazers Soccer team finished its season with a disappointing loss to Richland 1-0 in the opening round of the playoffs. Richland eventually went on to win the national championship.

Coached by Jim Benedek and Adrian Gonzalez, the Lady Blazers finished the regular season in second place in the Metro Athletic Conference.

They scored a record 54 goals while only allowing 14 all season and finished with 8-5-1 record.

“The team has four post-season honors given to players for the first time in team history,” said Benedek.

Sophomores Tina Dreier and Sylvia Resendiz were named “MAC” All Conference First Team, while sophomore Veronica Romero and freshman Lindsey Harris got “MAC” All Conference Honorable Mention.

Benedek isn't looking back on the season, he is gearing up for next year. “I am already getting e-mails from future prospective student athletes for 2007.”

After having their game against Cedar Valley broadcast live on ICTN's “Game of the Week” and receiving press on three Irving players on the team, girls from all over want to play for the Lady Blazers.

The Lady Blazers will have 12 returning players next season. The team is taking the winter off, but will be back on the field for a short spring program to recruit new and existing players for the '07 team.
