“A Night in Old Vienna,” the upcoming performance by the North
Lake Chorale, isn't just another recital
of classical music. Rather it's
a glimpse of what a Viennese audience
might have heard near the end
of the 18th century.
As you'd probably expect by the
title, “A Night in Old Vienna” focuses
on the music of Vienna. What
you might not guess is that the performance
revolves around the works
of only two composers – Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart and Franz Haydn.
Why focus on only those two? Allan
Andrews, the choir director, said
the choice of Mozart and Haydn is
a tribute to the 250th anniversary of
Mozart's birth.
Jan. 27, 2006, marked the beginning
of a year-long series of performances
by musical groups across
the country dedicated to Mozart's
life and musical works.
The Dec. 1 performance, which
students have been perfecting since
late September, is North Lake's
contribution to the collective tribute.
The performance highlights the
talents of North Lake voice instructor
and Artist-in-Residence Regina
Walter as a featured soloist. In
addition to her work as a voice instructor
at North Lake, Walter has
performed with several companies
ranging from the Dallas Opera to
the Italian National Opera.
“A Night in Old Vienna” is a
one-night performance, Friday
Dec. 1, from 7-8 p.m. in the North
Lake Performance Hall. Admission
is free.
