Shirts & ties for Blazers

When the Association of Black
Collegians (ABC) wanted to support
student athletes and increase their visibility
on game day, the club decided
to launch a shirt and tie tradition.
Aware that the team would feel
more confident and cohesive, the
ABC – which claims several basketball
players as members – raised
money and provided shirts and ties to
be worn by all players on game day.
“When I heard about the shirt and
tie idea I immediately supported it,”
said team member Billy Hartman.
“We represent not only the team, but
the whole school, and I believe that
it's important to do so in a formal
and classy manner.”
Hartman's opinion was echoed by
Dr. Wright Lassiter, Jr., chancellor of
the Dallas County Community College
District. “This project promotes
pride in oneself and in the team,” said
Lassiter. “It also conveys commitment
to both athletics and academics.”
Adviser Tuesday Hambric and
club offi cer Alysia Goff met their
initial fundraising goal in a matter
of days. Lassiter is one of many people
in the North Lake community
who contributed funds in support of
the association's efforts.
The basketball team's next home
game is Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. when North
Lake hosts Mountain View.
