North Lake will be a happening
place in March.
Food, health tips and
leadership advice are
on the month's menu.
There will be a Chili Cookoff on
March 5, from 10 a.m. until noon
in the foyer near the bookstore and
cafeteria. Prizes will be awarded by
the judges and include Disney on
Ice tickets and concert tickets.
“This is a great way for students,
faculty and staff to get together and
enjoy some great chili and camaraderie,”
said Delaina Alani, Student
Programs and Resources Department
(SPAR) coordinator.
In addition, Alani said, the chili
contest is a good way for campus
clubs to raise money. Organizations
are allowed to sell samples of their
chili. The deadline for contest registration
is Feb. 28. Call Alani at
972-273-3022.
A health fair is scheduled for
March 6, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.,
and from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Students can network with health
care professionals and obtain free
information to aid in long and
healthful lives.
The same day, students and faculty
can contribute to the health of
others by giving blood to visitors
from the Carter Blood Bank from
10 a.m. until 3 p.m., in K-216.
A series of lectures by community
leaders will be arranged by
the Student Leadership Institute,
but the March dates had not been
scheduled at press time.
Drena Settles, SPAR program
specialist, said those speakers will
provide students with advice on how
to develop leadership skills.
SPAR will identify those speakers
and announce their schedule of
appearances soon, Settles said. |

Students Jose Zarraras, Christian Santos, Brittany Gaitan and
Jumanne Donahue spent part of their Valentine's Day rolling up
their sleeves and donating blood to Carter Blood Care. Another
blood drive will be held March 6 from 10-3 p.m. in K-216.
