North Lake has a choir? This
is a question that is asked a
lot. And, yes, we do have
one.
I am in the day choir but I had a lot
of questions just like you guys do.
So I decided to talk to the choir director,
Allan Andrews, after class one
day to see if I could get some answers
about the program.
Q: What brought you to North
Lake?
A: I was teaching in Carrollton
for a long time and was about to retire.
One day I got a call from someone
at North Lake, asking if I knew anyone
who could be interested in taking the
choir director job there. I decided to
take this job because it was less time
and less pressure when I was teaching
in high school.
Q: How long have you been teaching?
A: I have been teaching for 30
years and I have been directing choirs
for 37 years.
Q: Do you have any plans for our
choirs?
A: I plan to produce more successful
music majors for the university during
their time here at North Lake. I also
plan to give students in community colleges
the same musical experience they
would have received at a university if
they would have chosen to go there.
Q: How do you select the songs the
choir sings?
A: The song itself has to be of a
quality that is long lasting to the audience.
It also has to be well composed,
and the text for the song has to have a
literary merit.
Q: Any exciting events coming
up?
A: Our next big concert is on
April 24th that will feature the North
Lake singers and Chorale, featuring
our guest choir, Grand Prairie High
School.
