Sticky-fingered crooks take phones, projector, CD player and more

NLC Police encourage staff, students to report all campus crimes

Police Beat:

Some big ticket items have gone missing on campus: two people are now without a cell phone; a classroom no longer has a projector; the bookstore is short an expensive text book. More than one person's wallet is a bit lighter. Someone's day will lack music, and one person at the South Irving Center now has a damaged car.

All of these people have fallen prey to sticky-fingered crooks at North Lake College.

There is a chance that some of these folks will be able to recover their valuables, or at least have the satisfaction of knowing that the culprit is caught and rightfully punished. Why? They reported the crime.

If you are aware of or fall victim to the following crimes, you should report them to the NLC Police Department, according to the department 's Web site:

. Stolen articles, either taken from you personally or missing from your work area. You should consider an article stolen if you have made an extensive search and cannot locate the item. The value of an item should not be a factor in deciding whether it should be reported.
• Vandalism
• Verbal abuse or threats
• Drugs
• Physical assault
• Traffic accidents or violations, hit and run, speeding

Report if you have knowledge of the following:
• Fire or electrical hazards
• Trip hazards
• Parking hazards
• Indoor/outdoor lighting inoperative
• Suspicious activity
• Disruptive students
• Locked or malfunctioning doors

From campus phones: Dial 911 from any campus phone for emergency services. For nonemergency services, dial ext. 4290.

From mobile or other phones: Dial DCCCD Police Communications directly at 972-860-4521 when requesting police services. Do not dial 911 from your mobile phone for non-emergency matters.

Jan. 23: Theft $50-$500 - A cell phone, which had been left unattended at the NLC Subway restaurant, was stolen.

Jan. 24: Theft $50-$500 - A book, which had been stored for safekeeping, was stolen from the NLC Bookstore.

Jan. 30: Burglary of a Building - An EIKI projector was stolen from a T-building classroom.

Jan. 30: Theft $50-$500 - Sixty dollars in cash was stolen from an unattended purse in the welcome desk area (NLC A-400).

Jan. 31: Criminal Mischief - A cement-filled safety barrier was defaced with graffiti.

Feb. 3:Theft $50-$500 - A portable CD player was stolen from a classroom (A-351).

Feb. 7: Theft $500-$1,500 - A prototype cell phone, $80 in cash and assorted credit cards were stolen from an unattended backpack in the NLC men's locker room in the S-building.

Feb. 8: Burglary of a Vehicle - A car was broken into with the intent to commit a theft at the South Irving Center. No property was stolen.
