International Day has been taking place every year at North Lake for twenty years.  It is a day to celebrate the different cultures represented by the college’s diverse student body.

This year the event will be held on April 10 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the covered patio area next to the cafeteria.  Under a tented showground, there will be performing artists, a fashion show and a multicultural cook-off, all supporting the theme of “World Bazaar.”

The cook-off is new this year and there will be a prize for the best dish.  The fashion show is open to students, and will display the native dress from various different countries.  In addition to the other activities, there will also be a showing of a Bollywood film during the event.

According to data from the Office of Research and Development at North Lake, at least 9 percent of the students attending North Lake this spring are foreign nationals.  However, International Day is for everyone to express their culture.  North Lake has invited students from surrounding colleges and high schools to come and join in on the occasion.
