Lake Takes
The N-R’s
opinion on
recent campus
happenings.
THUMBS
DOWN to
skunk odor in
the A-building.
Everyone has their own style
of music. Some people like hip
hop, some like rap, others like
country, and yes, some even
like Barry Manilow.
There’s nothing like having
the mayor of Irving visit our
campus on a day that a skunk
decides to smell up the place.
We’re not sure what prompted
the critter to stink up the
A-building hall near Liberal
Arts, but students found it
awfully hard to concentrate
in the classrooms. There were
rumors that classes were being
cancelled, but we didn’t see
any mass exits.
Except to get a whiff of fresh
air from the top floor.

THUMBS UP to students
speaking out.
Have you looked at the February
Listening Box suggestions
posted on the college’s
Web site? Eight students wrote
in about their desire for a Student
Life Center. You know,
the same Student Life Center
that was supposed to go into
the old library space in the Hbuilding
years ago.
It was good to see a response
from the administration
and its commitment to
this project. Construction to
start in fall 2008? Opening for
summer 2009?
We’ll hold you to it.
THUMBS
DOWN to the
chili cookoff
getting cancelled. It was a huge disappointment
for the N-R to learn that
the annual chili cookoff was
cancelled this year because of
low participation.
We heard there were five entrants.
Wasn’t that enough?
THUMBS UP
to a great patio
area on the
third level.
Wrought iron furniture.
Trickling waterfall. Native
Texas plants.
That’s what you’ll find outside
on the third level between
P, H & K buildings.
Need a new place to escape
to this spring?
Give it a try. And bring a
good book.
