It’s award time!
The North Lake College 2007 Teacher of the
Year award was given to Tuesday Hambric, a
faculty member at NLC for six years. She currently
teaches human development, introduction
to psychology, and developmental psychology.
She also handles dispute resolution for faculty
and students.
“I’m just super excited about it,” she said.
When asked why she thought she was chosen for
the award, Hambric said it was because, “I care
about my students. I pay attention when they
don’t pay attention,” she said.
A plaque will be presented to Hambric as part
of a presidential award ceremony on May 10,
graduation day. On what is also known as Service
Excellence Day, the Adjunct of the Year
award will be announced and presented as well.
Hambric said her award was an unexpected
surprise, but she did encourage students to vote
for their favorite teacher.
“A lot of students aren’t aware that this
[Teacher of the Year award] is even going on.”
When asked of the award’s importance, Hambric
said that it is significant because the votes
come “directly from students [and show] exactly
how [they] feel about us.”
Virginia Jones, SPAR director and campus
nurse, said the award “really gives [students] an
opportunity to vote for a teacher who has maybe
helped change their perspective ... who’s had a
great impact on their life.”
Hambric holds her students’ attention with a
non-traditional way of teaching.
For the 2007 Maymester, she plans to have
groups of two students teach each chapter to
their classmates. This will keep the students on
their toes in each four-hour class.
Hambric not only teaches from an intellectual
point of view, but from a spiritual point of
view.
