This year’s national theme was “Necessary Contradictions.” Veteran member John Thomason spoke about the rich lessons of our common history and cited individuals whose nonconformity and individual acts of courage changed the world. SKD officer Kathryn McAdams presented a multi-media presentation when she explicated the Society’s motto, Sincerity, Knowledge, and Design. Thomason was awarded the Expect Excellence Leadership Award, and Kathryn McAdams received the Keeping the Promise Award. The society’s fund-raising efforts this program year included the support of a Dallas single mother whose serious health issues prompted early retirement, and compelled her to live in public housing. Vera Moore was Sigma Kappa Delta’s special guest at the ceremony and was recognized as a new friend of the society. The students also made a donation to Operation USO Care Package, in support of the brave men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
