ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT 200 pieces of art work on display in Gallery
Annual Student Art Exhibition runs until May 5; awards announced at April 23 reception
Art students LeAnn Boyce and Junko Otsu at the reception. The 2008 Student Art Exhibition currently on display in the Gallery is composed of over 200 artworks in many media. The juror for the show was Kristin Byars, a painter who resides and works in Dallas. At a reception and award ceremony April 23, the following students and their art were acknowledged: Best of Show ($150 each): Kara Dahl, “Hunger,” pastel on paper; and Kapil Dixit, “Searching for Home,” clay & glaze. Special Achievement Awards ($50 each): 2D Design, Kapil Dixit, “Consoled,”; 3D Design, Sigrun Hukill, “Tender Moment”; Computer Graphics, Rachel Cox, “Heartbreak”; Digital Print, Prajesh Shrestha, “Stormy Weather “; Drawing, Justine Cheshire, “Twilight Showers”; Painting, Pat Sutterfield, “Cold”; Pottery, Sandi Mc- Farland, “Verdant Peace”; Sculpture, Carole Fleischman, “Not quite perfect but still proud”; Jurors’ Choice, Junko Otsu, “Brown Jazz,” painting; Juror’s Choice, Veronika Splann, “Horse Rattle,” clay; Juror’s Choice, LeAnn Boyce, “Someone’s Watching,” mixed media; Juror’s Choice, Laura Anzak- Strike, “Touch Love,” clay Asel Art Supply Award ($25 gift certifi cates each): Richard Widener, “La Carnaval,” painting; Sarah Amond, “Helleborus,” mixed media; Lee Rodriguez, “Slag on Blue,” clay, glaze & metal; Dyenie Efendi (Bonnie), “Angel Watched,” copper relief; Alena Reindl, “Selfportrait,” painting. Trinity Ceramics Awards NLC Bookstore Award NLC Purchase Awards ($100 each): Claudia Rouchon, “Text in the City,” digital print (framed); Steven Ogle, “Mt Teach Some More,” digital print (framed); Gerardo Perez, “Sin City,” digital print (framed); Jessica Meade, “Branching Out,” mixed media (framed); Kimberly Roads, “122,” digital print (framed); Shawn Camel, “Listen,” digital print (framed); Corey Boyd, “Nova,” digital print (framed). 2008 Cecil Wallace Fordham Outstanding Art Student – ($400) DCCCD Foundation: LeAnn Boyce Bob Nunn Art Excellence Award ($200): Junko Otsu 2008 Student Spotlight Exhibition (selected by the Art Faculty) The students listed below will be honored with a special exhibition in the Gallery this fall. They have been chosen based on artistic achievement, body of work, and positive work ethic. They will work together in the summer to produce all aspects of the exhibition. They are: Wanda Burton, Chuck Burton, Trish Lambert, Shawn Camel, Cindy Chin and Prajesh Shrestha.
