About
Us
Over the years, the publication has
never waivered from its focus ~ ~ to protect the basic
principle of a free press by striving at all times
to be a responsible member of the press, and to serve
as a form of communication for the campus by including
news about students, instruction, student services,
business services and campus activities.
Students studying journalism at North Lake College are
given an opportunity to gain hands-on experience by working
on the campus newspaper, the
News-Register. Even though students work
under the direction of a faculty advisor, they are responsible
for the layout, the content, the editing, the design,
and the distribution of the newspaper.
Students are
introduced to the Adobe InDesign program and Microsoft
Word. All assignments are written and produced on Macintosh
computers.
After studying
journalism at North Lake College, working on the
News-Register, and earning an Associates Degree,
the student is well prepared to go on to a four-year
university, or enter the work place, as editor of a
newsletter, writer/editor of a community newspaper,
publicity writer in public relations, or community relations.
