Testing Center

The North Lake College Testing Center administers assessment tests, instructional exams and national program exams. The center is equipped with separate stations for both computerized and paper-and-pencil tests. Private rooms are available for special accommodations by appointment only.
 
The Testing Center is located in room A425.

Testing Schedule

MTWR 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
No tests will be issued after 7:00 p.m. Other cut-off times may be in effect for specific exams by the instructor's direction. All exams collected at 8:00 p.m.

F & Sa 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Other cut-off times may be in effect for specific exams by the instructor's direction. No tests will be issued after 2:30 p.m. All exams collected at 3:30 p.m.

Classroom and Make-Up Testing

If your instructor requires you to complete an exam in the Testing Center, be sure to have the following information when you request your test.
  • Instructor's name
  • Subject and course number (exp: HIST 1301)
  • Exam number (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.)
  • Exam deadline (Get this information from your instructor. The testing staff can not "look up" this information on computers.)

What To Bring

  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Scantron answer sheet (If required)
  • A Test Request Form must be completed before entering the Testing center.
  • Only battery operated 4-function, non programmable scientific or TI83/TI 84 calculator are allowed (if permitted by instructor).
  • Money for coin-return lockers (quarter). Please do not share lockers.
Important: Government- or school-issued photo identification is required and enforced.

TSI Mathematics Test

The Mathematics Test is a multiple-choice assessment with four basic content areas with scores ranging from 310 to 390. There are approximately 20 items on the TSI placement test and 10 items in each section of the TSI diagnostic test. View information on the kinds of questions asked, and sample questions and answers.

TSI Reading Test

The TSI Assessment in Reading is a multiple-choice assessment with scores ranging from 310-390 that covers the four content areas listed below. There are approximately 24 items on the TSI placement test and 10 to 12 items in each section of the TSI diagnostic test. TSI Writing Test

The Writing Test is an assessment that contains a multiple-choice section and an essay section. The multiple-choice section has four content areas with scores ranging from 310 to 390. Shown below are brief descriptions of each of the four content areas. There are approximately 20 items on the TSI placement test and 10 to 12 items in each section of the TSI diagnostic test. Essay Section

You may be asked to write a five-paragraph persuasive essay (approximately 350–500 words) on a controversial issue or one of current interest. You will be expected to clearly state a main idea and provide specific examples and details to back up your main idea, as well as follow conventions of Standard English. You will not be allowed to use a dictionary or other outside resources, but you may use plain scratch paper (provided at the testing center) to plan our essay and write your rough draft(s). Items will test the student’s ability to arrange the parts of sentences in the most logical way, including the use of logical transitions and the correct placement of modifying phrases and clauses and the student’s ability to use logical transitions.
