Approved by Irving voters in 1997 as part of a school bond package, construction of the High School Academy started on North Lake property in 2000. The partnership is estimated to have saved taxpayers between $3 - $5 million. The Academy opened for the 2001-2002 school year and accommodated 1,300 students in grades nine through 12.
Each high school program in the Academy is coordinated and articulated with companion college programs. Students will be able to graduate from the Academy with a substantial number of completed college hours.
