Climate Leadership

Since 2007, North Lake College has been leading campus sustainability with efforts in instructional programs, facilities operations, and community collaboration.

    Sustainability Vision Statement

To serve as a leader in a network of individuals and organizations for Economic, Environmental and Societal Sustainability, and working with community partners, we will enhance and develop our curriculum, policies, and workforce initiatives to meet the challenges of our future together.

    STARS Program

In 2009, North Lake College was a pilot project participant of the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS) for Colleges and Universities.

STARS is a part of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), of which North Lake is a member.

    Presidents' Climate Commitment

In 2007, Dr. Herlinda Glasscock, then-President of North Lake, first signed the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). That commitment has been renewed by NLC's current president, Christa Slejko, who has added her signature to ACUPCC.

The Presidents' Climate Commitment is a high-visibility effort to address global warming by gaining institutional commitments to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions, and to accelerate the efforts of higher education to equip society to re-stabilize the earth's climate.
