Business Office Systems and Support (BOSS) at North Lake

Continuing Education programs

In addition to credit courses, North Lake College offers three continuing education certificates in Business Office Systems and Support. Students interested in pursuing these certificates can graduate with a credential which demonstrates their job-ready abilities.

  • Administrative Assistant Occupational Skills Award. To receive this certificate, the student takes five courses: Business Correspondence and Communication, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Business Presentations, and Administrative Office Procedures II. Each course is 64 classroom hours, for a total of 320 hours.
  • Desktop Publishing Occupational Skills Award. To receive this certificate, the student takes five courses: Introduction to Keyboarding, Desktop Publishing, Word Processing, Digital Imaging I, and Basic Graphic Design. Each course is 64 classroom hours, for a total of 320 hours.
  • Office User Specialist Occupational Skills Award. To receive this certificate, the student takes four courses: Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Introduction to Database, and Business Presentations. Introduction to Database is 112 classroom hours of instruction, and the other three classes are 64 hours each, for a total of 304 hours.
