Applied Music

North Lake College’s Applied Music program offers the opportunity to study an instrument directly with top-notch musicians, as well numerous opportunities for recital performance. We prepare transfer-track Music majors for entrance auditions to four-year Music programs, scholarship auditions, and competitions. The final exam is a graded performance for a jury that includes the student's Applied Music instructor and the full-time music faculty.

North Lake offers two levels of Applied Music instruction. Students who are enrolled in a one credit hour performance ensemble at North Lake can qualify to enroll in a 30 minute per week private lesson for an additional credit hour. Students who are enrolled in a performance ensemble and a 3 credit hour music theory course at North Lake can qualify to enroll in a 60 minute per week private lesson for two additional credit hours. For students wishing to transfer to a 4-year program, a minimum of 8 credit hours of applied instruction on the student’s major instrument or voice is required for transfer.

If a student fails to maintain enrollment in mandatory co-requisite courses during the semester, he/she will be required to drop the applied lesson course as well.

Applied music courses are repeatable for additional credit.
