Dance is for everyone! No previous dance experience required!
The North Lake Dance program is designed to meet the needs of all ages, whether planning a career in dance or simply enrichment and pleasure of moving to music. Classes emphasize posture, placement, dance qualities and techniques. Many levels are offered to provide the appropriate challenge for each student, depending on his/her development level, desire or previous experience. All dance courses are offered through concurrent enrollment.
For the Advanced Student
The Dance program at North Lake College is professionally oriented and all students accepted into the advanced program should expect the level of training and discipline which reflects this emphasis. Students are expected to be in good physical health, dedicated, and willing to work long hours in rehearsals to achieve success. Continuing professional development is recommended for advanced students, since the college curriculum and performance programs are designed to develop the student's highest potential.
The department strives to maintain a balance between an active production program and rigorous classroom work. The faculty includes professionals who encourage the development of new works and presentations of these pieces for community concerts. The Department consists of faculty committed to excellence and artistic freedom. Each faculty member creates an environment of innovation and collaboration, along with traditional technique, to nurture and simulate students. This multi-style concentration can develop versatile dancers for the current demands of ever-changing careers in the performing arts.
Each fall semester students are given the opportunity to perform in the annual faculty-choreographed dance concert, held in our own Performance Hall on North Lake's central campus. The Fall Dance Concert is held the next to last Thursday and Friday before Thanksgiving at 7:00 pm and is free. In Spring, students are given the opportunity to choreograph, co-produce and costume their own pieces. The Spring Dance Concert is held the last Thursday of April on the NLC lawn at 7:00 pm (if it rains the concert is held in the performance hall). In addition, off-campus performance opportunities are offered for the more advanced dance students. All students wishing to perform must be enrolled in a technique class and in Rehearsal & Performance.
Dance Team Auditions
All dance team members are REQUIRED to be available for Summer II semester rehearsals from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and Fall/Spring rehearsals Mondays/Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm during the Fall and Spring semesters. Costumes are provided to dancers.
