Performing Ensembles

North Lake College offers a variety of performance ensembles for credit and non-credit. All ensembles are open to qualified students with prior musical background without audition.  The ability to read conventional music notation may be required.  Contact the instructor for more information. Ensemble classes may be repeated for credit.

North Lake is currently expanding its ensemble course offerings. Watch this page for future updates. Students enrolled in any ensemble course may qualify to enroll in a 30 minute per week applied music (private lesson) course.

Jazz Ensemble

Tammy Kotara, Director
This new hybrid choral group performs a variety of music including classical, jazz, Broadway, and pop. Emphasis will be placed on developing skills such as basic theory/harmonization (scales, arpeggios and chord inversions), writing/arranging music, and sight reading. These vocal skills are essential for all musicians regardless of major or level of experience. For more information, call 972-273-3576.

Satisfies CORE TIER 1 - Wellness and the Human Experience
Course Description: Study the art of jazz improvisation. This entry-level course is designed to introduce improv techniques including blues, ii-V progressions, chord-tone and modal improvisation. The course is open to all instrumentalists and vocalists. Music reading and some theory recommended but not required.
