North Lake now serves as a host for El Centro College's
Nursing Associate Degree Program
Students can take courses on the North Lake campus, and at the end of two years they will receive a nursing degree from El Centro.
Students must complete fifteen hours of college courses prior to admission into the program. The required courses include:
BIOL 2401 Anatomy & Physiology I
ENGL 1301 Composition I
PSYC 2301 Introduction to Psychology
In addition to course work, students perform clinical work at area hospitals.
About the associate degree in nursing
The Associate Degree Nursing program is a full-time program comprising lecture, skills lab, and clinical experience, with rotations involving both day and evening hours.
Students take courses involving anatomy, physiology, microbiology, nutrition, psychology, and other behavioral sciences.
Students begin their hospital rotations the first semester after admission to the program and rotate through Metroplex hospitals, participating in a wide variety of procedures.
Supervised clinical experience is provided in hospital departments such as pediatrics, psychiatry, maternity, and surgery. It may also include clinical experience in nursing homes, public health departments, home health agencies, and ambulatory clinics.
Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, commonly referred to as the NCLEX-RN. Our program is accredited by the
Texas Board of Nursing
and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
