Career Guidance and Counseling

  • Individualized career counseling for students and community members
    Online guidance programs including the following:
    • The Careers College is a free, online instructional guide to mastering the job search and landing your ideal job. All tutorials and tools are available 24/7 from any computer, tablet or smartphone. Contact Career Services for an access code.
    • Career Assessment: Take a short online career assessment using Careeronestop to find out what careers fit your interest. A Career Specialist is here to help you explore career paths. Once you have completed the assessment, click on the "Details" link to review your results. Next, select the email icon, email the results to nlccareers@dcccd.edu, and schedule an appointment for Career Advising using this link to talk with us about your results.
  • Career library with occupational outlook information, job descriptions, salary information, and job search strategy
  • Career Resources from the NLC Library

Resume Preparation

  • Resume writing assistance and review, in person or email us
  • Computer lab for resume preparation
  • 10 free copies of your resume on professional paper when you complete your resume at Career Services
  • A partnership with Resume Target, a professional resume writing service, allows NLC to offer access to hundreds of resume templates and other career information. Registration is free. (Learn more about Resume Target here.)

Interview Preparation

  • Mock interviews, with tutoring and advice on interview skills
  • Preparation for common interview questions, and a list of questions to ask possible employers
  • Free thank-you notes to send after job interviews (one per interview) and letter-writing help
  • Access to Big Interview online interview skills database. This training service includes a fast-track option, for when you have an interview coming up soon, or a mastery track, if you're preparing for job-seeking in general.

Job Search Assistance

  • Symplicity Online Job Bank (partnership with DCCCD)
  • DCCCD Job Listing and Referral Services make your resume available to employers who call the Career Services Office or use the DCCCD system. We will send your resume to employers for you (if you choose this option).
  • Job vacancy information direct from employers
  • Telephone and fax machine for students to make local calls to employers and fax resumes
