Student Honor Societies

Students with qualifying grade point averages may join one of North Lake’s five honor societies. Members participate in community service and social events.

Alpha Beta Gamma International Business Honor Society

Alpha Beta Gamma International Business Honor Society exists to recognize and reward academic excellence among business honor students and to recognize the contribution to learning by professors and business professionals. Delta Psi is the North Lake College Chapter of Alpha Beta Gamma and is a great organization to develop contacts with other like minded future business leaders.

To be eligible for membership in ABG, a student must be enrolled in a business curriculum in a junior, community, or technical college, or a two-year accredited program within a college or university. Students must have completed 15 credit hours with at least 12 hours of his/her work taken in courses leading to a degree recognized by North Lake College or another accredited College or University. In addition, the student must have demonstrated academic excellence by attaining a 3.0 GPA or its equivalent in business courses as well as a 3.0 overall GPA.

Mu Alpha Theta Math National Honor Society

Promoting a better understanding of math and implementation of math skills in everyday life. Requirements: 3.0 overall GPA and 3.0 GPA overall in math courses.

National Society of Collegiate Scholars

The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) is an honors organization that recognizes and elevates high achievers. NSCS provides career and graduate school connections, leadership and service opportunities and offers nearly half a million dollars in scholarships annually. NSCS members are deeply committed to scholarship, leadership and service and as a result, are impacting their campus and local communities every day.

NSCS invites high-achieving first- and second-year undergraduates. Members must have a GPA of 3.4 or above and rank in the top 10 percent at their institutions.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (Alpha Zeta Eta Chapter)

phithetakappa.jpgThe Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society has recognized academic excellence in the two-year college since 1918 and has become the largest and one of the most prestigious honor societies in higher education.  More than 2 million members have been inducted at 1,200 colleges in the United States and abroad.

The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence. 

Alpha Zeta Eta is the North Lake College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Members can earn community service hours, gain leadership experience, and network with many of the people and businesses we work with.

Requirements to Join

  • Minimum 3.5 GPA 
  • At least 12 NON-DEVELOPMENTAL credit hours.
  • One time $95 membership fee.

Depending on the university chosen, students transferring from NLC may be awarded an automatic transfer scholarship. Once inducted, members are not required to be active at their community college; however, active members can build their resumes before transferring to another college, adding the experience they will receive at NLC. Also, members may have a chance to apply for more scholarships reserved for Phi Theta Kappans only.

Psi Beta Psychology National Honor Society

Psi Beta is a Psychology National Honor Society designed for students who are interested in the field of psychology. Requirements: 3.25 GPA, 12 transferable credit hours, 1 Psychology class with a grade of B or higher.
